I came across your podcast the day before yesterday and listen to a few of episode, rather from curiosity than being eager to learn english (will be nice though),, and find your talk very interesting. :)
As a Korean, living in a foreign country 7 years - whole of my adult life ;), studied UK and Germany and now working in Switzerland, I've been very often annoyed with those silly questions or perspectives about Asians (mostly they don't even sort out which Asian they mention. The things would be of course not exactly same, but might be based on the same reason, the lack of understandings, I guess.
and.. that attitude welcoming tourists and not expecting to have one more immigrant,, hum..it's been so obvious in here, especially in Switzerland, although this country is famous for having numerous international organisations... hum,, aren't the english-speaking-countries such as Canada, USA or N.Z. rather exceptional??
Anyway, it's really interesting to have a look at living in Korea as a foreigner from american point of view, so go on talking about Korea!! :D

Ah, we explained "hand-fed" in another thread, but it seems to be a popular question, so I've added it to the Key Words and Phrases section above the transcript in this post.

1.
I didn't know all of these problems around foreigners in Korea,
even though I have several friends from abroad here.
This episode honestly much helped me to understand them better.
2.
I googled every time a new site pops up in your conversation and found out the links of the sites were kindly posted right below of the audio bar. lol
Thank you very much for introducing all these sites! They must introduce me very different points of view to think about Korea.

I love this episode. Especially the talk about the preconceptions people have about foreigners. I love the funny and friendly way you present these odds. Thanks a lot!

just what it sounds like - "hand-fed" means someone uses their hands to feed another person. If you hand-feed a pet, it means you let it eat from your hand instead of putting food in a bowl. If you talk about people though, it means that somebody puts the food directly in your mouth^^ So when I go to my family's house for holidays, I sit in the kitchen. As the aunts and my mom cook, they stop sometimes and give me a bit of whatever they're making to taste. Instead of putting it on a plate for me, though, they just tell me to open wide^^

I don't understand the meaning of "i sit in the kitchen and get hand-fed bits of whatever they're cooking" in jennifer's saying.

hand-fed?
